Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Łódź Airport

01.08.2025

This year, Władysław Reymont Łódź Airport is celebrating a special milestone – its 100th anniversary. It is the oldest airport in Poland that has operated continuously in the same location since 1925.

The airport was officially opened on September 13, 1925. At that time, in the village of Lublinek, a hangar, residential building for pilots and airport management, and a grass airfield were constructed on an area of 40 hectares. The airport was located to the west of the current terminal and roughly covered the central area of today’s airport. The construction cost was 270,000 złoty, and the investment was financed by the State Air Defense League.

To mark this special occasion, the airport has prepared a series of attractions for residents of Łódź and the region:

August 18–22Airport bus tours. During the tours, visitors will learn how airport operational services and institutions work. Registration opens on Monday, August 4.

August 20Open-air cinema at the airport. After dark, there will be a screening of the film Top Gun: Maverick starring Tom Cruise. Before the feature film, a short student film titled Polskie Linie Lotnicze LOT from 1954 will be shown, partially filmed at the Łódź airport. The event is co-organized with Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze Nr 1 S.A., which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.
